Current State of Global Climate

The Earth is facing unprecedented climate changes in history. The global average temperature is rising, leading to global warming. The most noticeable manifestation is the increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events such as storms, floods, droughts, and heat waves. Melting ice at the poles and glaciers is happening at an alarming rate, causing sea levels to rise, threatening coastal areas and small islands. Many ecosystems are being destroyed, and biodiversity is severely declining.

Causes of Climate Change

The main cause of climate change is human activity, especially the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O), trap heat in the atmosphere, increasing the Earth’s temperature. The burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas) for energy production, transportation, and industry is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, deforestation, livestock farming, and fertilizer use also contribute to the increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

The Greenhouse Effect and its Role

The greenhouse effect is a natural phenomenon necessary to maintain life on Earth. However, human activities have significantly amplified this effect, leading to global warming. Greenhouse gases absorb solar radiation, trapping heat in the atmosphere, making the Earth warmer. The increase in the concentration of greenhouse gases makes this phenomenon stronger, causing many negative consequences.

Solutions to Address Climate Change

To address climate change, there needs to be a collective effort from society, including governments, businesses, and individuals. Some important solutions include:

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions: Transition to renewable energy (solar, wind, hydropower…), improve energy efficiency, develop public transportation and environmentally friendly vehicles.
  • Protect and restore forests: Forests play a crucial role in absorbing CO2. Planting trees and protecting forests help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere.
  • Develop green technologies: Invest in research and development of environmentally friendly technologies to minimize emissions and limit the impact of climate change.
  • Adapt to climate change: Prepare for the impacts of climate change, such as building flood, drought, and other extreme weather event prevention systems.
  • Raise public awareness: Strengthen education and communication about climate change, helping people understand this issue and participate in environmental protection.

Climate change is a global challenge requiring strong international cooperation. Only through timely and decisive action can we mitigate the impacts of climate change and protect our planet for future generations.
